I was doing my grocery shopping yesterday when I noticed this bottle of Tumeric Elixir of Life. It is a cold pressed drink that uses the benefits of turmeric along with some other spices to make a refreshing beverage. The company refers to these drinks as yoga in a bottle.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I made the purchase. I have had turmeric several times as a food spice, encapsulated, and in teas as a cold remedy. In all of those experiences, I can’t say that I have grown to love the taste of turmeric. To find more about this elixir click here.
Somehow I thought this beverage would be different. The listed ingredients are as follows: turmeric, ginger, cardamom, spearmint, agave, lemon, salt, cayenne pepper, and cinnamon. It is orange in color kind of like fresh squeezed orange juice. However, the taste is kind of medicinal. You really taste the turmeric in this elixir. I was able to detect all of the flavors listed on the bottle but the turmeric was more of the dominant flavor. Also the drink wasn’t sweet at all. I think I expected it to be sweet because in my mind this was kind of like an iced tea or lemonade. It is clearly more of a medicinal tonic than a tasty drink.
It also says on the bottle that this can be used a recovery drink similar to Gatorade. I didn’t do any strenuous activity so I can’t vouch for this as a sportsman, but I don’t have an afternoon slump that one typically gets during the work day. In fact, I didn’t even feel the need to have my afternoon apple/snack.
Would I buy this on a frequent basis? No, but that is more so because of the nearly $9.00 price for a 32oz bottle. That is a lot of money to spend on a beverage that only tastes okay in my opinion. I would buy it once in a while because turmeric has many benefits such as cancer prevention, aids in digestion, natural liver detoxifier, immune system booster, metabolism booster and more. This is a good juice to add when making a smoothie or a fresh juice. Go to www.tumericalive.com to view their products and find a location near you.
